Crater Lake Minecraft Seed

Last week there was a post going around about a minecraft seed (4325227337) with a huge, crazy sinkhole at spawn, falling off into a lake almost down to bedrock, with a village floating on top of it. A friend and I have been exploring it. The sinkhole is gone in the most recent version, but the village is still there, and the lake is still weird. Exploring this seed feels like you are investigating a place where Something Happened, but it’s not clear what. It’s very atmospheric.

.

They’re playing survival, I’m just flying around in creative, so we’re discovering different stuff. There’s way too much to screenshot all of it, but here’s a big ol’ map with a rundown of what we’ve seen so far.

.

BANNER KEY

.

Some of the banners closest to the edge of the map may actually show something that is off the edge, but is visible from the location of the banner.

.

Orange: Spawn. Look near the center of the map– the crater lake that used to be the sinkhole has a green tag where the map was placed inside the village. Pink circle #1 is the weird lake.

.

Red: Villages.

.

Purple: Ruined Portals

.

Yellow: Bees’ Nest. I wasn’t going to mark these, and then I started finding them Everywhere.

.

Light Gray: We took an interest in the many crater-like formations that exist in this seed apart from the Deep Lake. I’ve tried to place the banners in the approximate center of the formations. Some of the pink banners are smaller craters, but these are the ones that definitely earned their own indicator. This seed really likes craters for some reason. Breakdown under the cut.

.

Light Blue: Something interesting underwater. Shipwrecks or ruins.

.

Black: Something interesting underground, though close to the surface. Some of these are mines. At least one, near the upper left (Northwest), is a large fossil hanging from the ceiling of an exposed cavern.

.

Lime Green: Mossy Cobblestone

White/Ominous Banner: Illager Outposts. Haven’t seen the mansion yet.

.

Pink: A personal marker. Some of these are smaller crater-like formations, some are those trees that indicate a lush cave below, some of them are just scenery I thought was cool looking. Tldr pink banners show locations where I think your life would be enriched in some way by stopping to take a closer look at your surroundings.

.

A: Azalea Circle

Note a roughly circular formation of pink banners— those are all azalea trees, which suggests an enormous formation of lush caves below ground in that circle. The pink banner on the northernmost edge to the right of the circle shows where significantly more azalea was visible onshore just off the edge of the map. This cave system might be even more extensive than first thought.

.

BEES: The Bee Belt

An area with an enormous concentration of beehives. This might not even be all of them. There are just an incredible number of bees here. Also indicated is a river system that mildly resembles an octopus.

.

C: Cleric Village

A village surrounded by Cherry Groves. Contains five churches, three of which are towers.

.

Dollie: Pink banner that marks the discovery of a naturally pink sheep wandering the clifftop. Have named the sheep Dollie.

CRATER GUIDE

There’s some wording here where you can tell we were having fun creating a little bit of lore lol but the geographic information is essentially accurate.

.

1: Deep Lake Crater

The big one! Bottoms out at only eight blocks above bedrock, by far the deepest. If Sea Crater is not indeed a crater, then it is by far the largest across as well. There is a large amount of obsidian at the bottom of the lake, as well as a significant quantity of diamond ore. The village floating on the surface contains three black cats. The significance of this is unclear, but it seems unusual.

.

2: Round Lake Crater

This one didn’t become obvious until the map was more complete, but it sure looks like another crater.

.

3: Snow Bowl Crater

A mountain chain that forms a perfect bowl. This is where we realized we were dealing with something on a way larger scale than just Deep Lake.

.

4: Great Spine Crater

A curved mountain chain that looks like about half of a bowl. The jungle is too dense to see if there’s another half on the aerials alone, and ground exploration hasn’t reached Great Spine yet.

.

5: Least Spine Crater

Very similar to Great Spine, but at a much smaller scale. This one is more exposed, so we can tell there’s no second half here.

.

6: Sandstone Quarry Crater

Not the largest, but one of the deepest craters seen on the aerials, not including Deep Lake. Exposes several cave systems below.

.

7: Dustbowl Crater

A badlands crater with a blighted forest clinging to life on its slopes. Significant presence of azalea trees suggest there may be more life below ground.

.

8: Tidepool Craters

This one had several smaller craters around it. Or are they just tide pools? Hard to say.

.

9: Shallow Sea Crater

This is another one that didn’t really clock until we saw the full aerial—that curved shoreline structure makes this one a solid Maybe. Its hard to say what kind of impact would have left this though—it’s huge, but relatively shallow.

.

10: Bamboo Crater

A bamboo patch almost entirely contained inside a large crater.

.

11: Flower Bowl Crater

A large but shallow crater at the top of a mountain. This one might be more of a volcano caldera than a crater.

.

12: Fish Bowl Crater

Small, but filled with tropical fish for some reason.

.

13: Avalanche Crater

Looks like one side of the mountain was smashed away. Village across the river.

.

14: Deadfall Crater

Small, but very deep—be careful, this one is easy to walk right into.

.

15: Buckshot Craters

A series of 3-5 small craters, depending on your cutoff for size.

.

16: Hollow Mountain Crater

A fairly tall mountain, but entirely hollow—it’s just a big cave with 2/3 of a shell around it.

.

17: Slide Cave Crater

Exposes several cave entries. The one at the deepest point has a geode very near the surface.

.

18: Squid Cone Crater

A steeply declining (cone shaped) crater lake with a bunch of glowsquid near the bottom. Spawns drowned regularly.

.

19: Stew Pot Crater

Scale is similar to the Snow Bowl and the Great Spine, with many mushrooms in it.

 .

20: Giant’s Well Crater

Small but deep, with odd structures at the bottom. Slightly misplaced on the map, actually closer to the village.

This is what I’ve been doing instead of preparing my Out of the Abyss campaign lmao.

.

EDIT:
Filled out another map! Just south of the original southeast qudrant, this map has only a few crater-like formations, but they’re all huge. I also found the mansion that was mentioned in the popular post.

.

21: Amphitheater Crater

Smallish crater that exposes a small cave, resembling a stage at the bottom of an amphitheater.

.

22: Valentine Crater

New contender for largest total diameter. An irregularly shaped crater (maybe actually three overlapping?) discovered on February 14th. Kinda shaped like a heart, fun coincidence.

.

23: Empire Crater

An attractive, flower-filled crater overlooked by a mountain range that strongly resembles an impressive city skyline.

.

24: Glacier Springs Crater

Sports a tall and mostly frozen ridge with a few water sources in the bowl. Scenic.

.

25: Anthill Crater

Large and of almost perfect shape, with a shallow lake in the middle.

.

26: Triforce Crater???

There is a large depression situated between Valentine, Empire, and Glacier Springs. It’s hard to say if this is a separate crater or merely a formation of the other three.
